News article are supposed to reach a wider audience than normal Journals, since they also can be faved.
They are good to feature upcoming Events/Contests, for Interviews and to feature Deviations.  (Feature Journals should include more than deviations, they should explain why something was featured.)

In the past many Emoticon-related News articles have been written, if you want to find these Articles you should browse the 'News article list' on Emotication

Writing News Article that contain Features

Here are some tips, what you have to keep in mind if you want to start a successful News article series.

  1. Check if some is writing a similar News Article series, it would be boring to see that the same Emoticons gets featured every time!
  2. Keep in mind that it is a lot of work to write News Articles and make sure that you have enough time to post it (You need time to find deviations and you have to write the Article)
  3. Are you really interested in writing Articles or you just want attention from others?
  4. Don't start a new series when you know that it won't last longer than 3 articles
  5. Deviants want to know why something was featured, write small description of the Emotes that have been featured
  6. Think of a good name, nobody wants to read an Article with a name like 'Emoticon feature 1'
  7. You should tell the deviants that they have been featured, they will be happy when they know that they have been featured
  8. Don't be shy and ask other Emoticonists if they could feature your Article (be polite!) and ask if it could be added to the list of Articles on Emotication

General articles/features for the emote community can be posted under Art News > Customizations

Writing News Article with Interviews

Interviews with fellow emoticonists are a great way to get to know others in the community and help share some knowledge. When considering an interview series remember:

  1. Be original with your interviewees and questions. There's no harm in interviewing people that have been interviewed in other articles, just try to ask different things
  2. You can interview a wide variety of emoticonists. Interviews are a great way to get new emoticonists exposure and to learn things from one that have been around a while. And don't forget the ones in the middle.
  3. Interviews don't require a theme, but i can help in choosing what to ask. Maybe pick ones that have started projects, run contests or have under 20k pageviews. The options are endless.
  4. If there is an interview series already running, be respectful Speak with the other author to ensure you don't fight for the same people or cover the same topics.
  5. Lay out your interview in a way that's easy to ready. Try different text styles for you and the interviewee. Don't just copy and paste messy chatlogs and expect people to filter out the irrelevant parts
  6. Consider how you want to interview people ahead of time and sort out an arrangement which is convenient for all. Interviews can be run through notes, over dAmn or even as a voice call over skype
  7. Get your interview noticed. Let Emotication know and see if it can be added to the news article list

Writing News Article with Contest Information

News articles can be used to advertise your emote contest, announce the results or feature the winners. If you are using them to launch a contest, be sure to include all the relevant information for the contest or link back to an existing journal.

Remember, you can't edit news articles, so make sure all the information is correct before you post it, and think about having a spare journal on your account that you can update with prizes, rules and other news if you need.

A clearly set out article can be of great advantage to your contest. The news section is seen by a variety of deviants all over the site and not just your watch list. However, if its one massive paragraph of information people may skim over and not pay attention. Clearly outline the rules, prizes and deadline so people don't have to search through a massive section to find what they need.
