Syn's guide to emotes in commentsFor years the dA community has been crying out for a way to use community made emoticons in comments all around dA. Whilst the Emoticon Legend offers a limited range of emotes, it is rarely updated with new emoticons and many of the emotes on there have become outdated. After several failed attempts at a revamped system, dA is starting to roll out an awesome new system for inserting community emoticons into comments.
Whilst this system has been in place on Sta.sh for a while now, it appears some people have missed it, so I thought I would throw together a short tutorial on the basics of the system. Along with community made emoticons, the new sidebar can be used to insert images from your own gallery and deviations from anywhere on dA. However, I will focus only on the emote side of things.
Step 1 - Add Media
When you click on the box to insert a new comment, there are now two options avai
VP NaNoEmo - Week 2We are now two weeks into June and I am starting to wonder where the time has gone! NaNoEmo is still going strong with a new batch of emotes which have been created this week. It has been fantastic looking through the gallery at all the awesome pieces.
If you have created any emotes for VP NaNoEmo please make sure you submit them to the gallery. Whilst it is great to see you taking part, we would love to help share your work and keep a collection of emotes made for this event. All emotes should be submitted to the 'featured' folder and the admin team will move them to a designated VP NaNo folder after the event has ended.
If you haven't had time to make your emote this week, don't worry. You can always skip a week or make a second emote later in the month. If you have yet to start VP NaNoEmo, it is not too late. We are happy for people to join at any point in the month.

VP NaNoEmo - Week 1We are now 1 week into Visual Purpose NaNoEmo and it has been fantastic to see a stream of emotes being submitted to the gallery.
We now officially have 22 deviants signed up to take part in the event and I hope to see this number continue to grow over the next couple of weeks.
What is VP NaNoEmo
Just a quick intro/reminder about what is VP NaNoEmo.
Visual Purpose NaNoEmo is a month long event to encourage emoticonists to make Visual Purpose emote in June. The suggested number is 4 (one for each week) though deviants are free to increase or lower that number to suit their needs.

Tree-mote Winners And Art Prizes Are...And the Tree-motes Winners Are...
Runner-up -I love this tree!
I can't think of a better way to use it than the emote is and the shimmer is a nice touch!
Sylvaur chose to pass on the prize, so it was awarded to Synfull as the next runner-up. Karen chose a 23x30cm Lustre photo print of this piece!
Winner -Great use of a tree as this has not failed to make me laugh every time I see it. I especially love the range of expressions on the emote!

Hello! Just a little heads up.
I am sorry to disappoint anybody who was looking forward to an emoticon advent calendar this year, but I just can't find any motivation for it. Eclipse just killed my interest for dA completely. Earlier today I was trying to find some Emotes, but it is now impossible to find anything at all.
