Welcome to a new Edition of Emotiviews!
The interviewee of this edition is:

opening words of the Artist:

We're no strangers to love, you know the rules, and so do I! A full commitment's what I'm thinking of. You wouldn't get this from any other guy! I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling gotta make you understand~!

Never gonna give you up. Never gonna let you down.

1. Programs of choice for emoting?

I prefer using Photoshop 7. Aside from photography, it's the only chance my PS copy gets to be used for anything. When I'm on my laptop, I use MSPaint when I'm testing emoticon ideas and faces. Sort of like sketching.

2. What is your favorite legend emote?

I might have too many. I overuse , but I have several other favourites, like :stare: and :typerhappy:. It depends on my mood, I suppose.

3. How important is shading/size/colour in emotes?

I find size and colour highly important, (after all, you gotta have boundaries and a colour to perceive!) but I don't see shading as too much of a necessity.

4. Have you told people in real life about your emotes?

Sure have. When I was making my first emoticon, my mom was sitting behind me playing Animal Crossing, so I told her about it. I usually tell my mom or dad about any big emoticon projects I'm working on. :)

5. Who or what was your main reason / biggest motivation for making emotes? And what makes you want to be an Emoticonist?

Back when I worked for Staff Appreciation Week, the two main people I worked with (SanguineEpitaph and litecrush )  were emoticonists at the time. (And still are, I believe.) I wasn't having good luck with other forms of art at the time, so I attempted making and animating some early emotes.

6. What do you feel are your strengths and weaknesses as an emoticonist? Is there anything you've consciously worked to improve? If so, how?

I'd like to say I have a strength in small details, but weaknesses with dithering when shading objects. The main emote project I'm working on - a Union Pacific EMD SD-70 engine - requires a lot of both details AND dithering, so I'd like to say I'm getting some good practice with that.

7. If you had to live for a day as an emote, would you hate yourself for the torture and abuse you put them through?

I rarely ever abuse my emote. :noes: When creating, I'm just not a violent person at heart. :XD:

8. What do you think is the most fun part when you make emotes?

I have to say, first of all, making character emotes or other people's OCs is the most fun. Though it can get tedious, I like shading hair, or my OC "Miura"'s helmet.

9. How long does a simple/complex or animated/still piece take?

It really varies on how excited I am about the project, or how many things I'm doing at the time. The only animations I do are for chat friendly emotes, and those can take maybe about an hour at most. Bigger pieces, like my Hetalia emote set, or the other secret emote project I'm working on, usually take about a month and a half (maybe two weeks total) to work on. I've been working on my Union Pacific piece since September.

10. If you had to convince someone to become an emoticonist, what would you say?

It's a lot easier than it looks. The emoticon community is generally very accepting and friendly towards anything, and it's a fairly untravelled frontier, so it'd be awesome to have more people make the journey with us.

11. What are the things that you don't like about the Emoticon Community and what things would you change if you had the power to do it?

I really don't like how everything is so clique-based. Even I've found my way into some kind of clique, and though it's actually very open and friendly with other people, I feel weird about it sometimes. (I probably need a break, haha.)

I can't think of any good way to change it all, cliques will be cliques. I'd say it'll take an efforts on MANY people's parts to start treating everyone around them right. I hope that can happen someday.

12. Do you think the popularity of an emoticon depends on its idea or just how pretty/shiny/bouncy it is?

I think it depends on how much time and effort was noticeably put into the emote.

13. If there was one person (on dA) who you could watch (educationally, of course) as they work without them knowing, who would you pick?

Ahh, well, as much as I love figuring things out by myself, I'd say litecrush. Her pixel work is so detailed, and I've always wondered how she did it.

14. What would you say to those people who argue that emoticons are not art?

Anything created from scratch or with a bit of help is art, anything from baking a cake to making music. Once you grasp this concept, you'll be a lot happier, not just in art but in life. I know I sure was when I figured that out.

15. Which emoticon in your gallery is your best work? Why?

I'm pretty fond of the Hetalia emoticon set, but I'd have to say the things that haven't been created yet, that still have so much possibility, are what I'm proudest of. :eyes:

16. What emote do you wish you could use in real life?

because I've caught myself occasionally acting out the emote when excited. Usually when playing video games.

17. Was there ever a point in your emote making where you went on hiatus? If so, what brought you back?

It wasn't emote related, but I pretty much just stopped doing anything on the computer in early November because of some accidental drama I stirred up. I deactivated my whole account and just left the computer for about three days.

18. What do you like most about the emoticon community?

it's shiny desu. There's such a wide variety of personalities in both the emoticon and the emoticonist, and it's always interesting to see their personalities reflect.

19. Which emoticon group do you use most? / Support most?

Emoticiety, I guess. I'm not as involved as I'd like to be in any groups aside from the main three I always check.

20. In the past decade we've gone from plain text colons and parentheses to intricately designed graphics. Where do you think emotes will be 10 years from now?

3D, baby. Migraine headaches, here I come!

Anything else you want to say?

Thank you for interviewing me! I promise to make emotes more often, I don't have that many now but I will soon.

Thank you very much for reading!
