Emoticonists on dA (6)

Sat Feb 11, 2012, 7:09 AM
:iconkrissi001:

I asked in a previous Journal that every Emoticonist should write a comment there.
You can still do it on this Journal if you haven't commented yet.
I sent notes to all of those who commented there and asked them a couple of questions.
And now I am going to feature all of this deviants and their answers :dummy:
If you saw that I have featured you and i didn't include all of your answers/or any answers, you could write a Journal and include all of your answers there. ;D

What is your first reaction when you find a new Emoticonist?
my reaction is usually something like :squee: or :giggle: I'm always happy to find someone new :)

Pick 5 of your most favourite Emoticonists and describe why they are special to you, what makes them stand out from the others?
well I have to say you guys are all great, but the five of you who have really stood out for me were, and still are
stuck-in-suburbia, Synfull, xxghost250xx , SparklyDest, and Web5teR
They have each affected me in a special way,
xxghost250xx has been a great friend to me and I want to thank her for that, stuck-in-suburbia,  was the reason I got into emotes and pixeling :)  Synfull has just been plain out fantastically nice, and Web5teR  has inspired me soo much :D I want to thank ALL of you for being fantastic even the ones not mentioned :)

Is there anything that you want to say to the whole Emoticon community?
I'd like to say, that you all are awesome :D and you are all truly great people

How could we strengthen the connection within the Emoticon community?
as for strengthening the community? It's pretty strong as it is :D I think it's honestly fine, just keep doing what you've been doing and it will only get stronger :)

What kind of things do you want to see less / more in the Emoticon Gallery?  (miscats excluded :stare:)
as of current, the only thing I'd really like to see change are the amount of : la : edits
Other than that I don't know what should be changed ( I really haven't been in the community that long XD)

Do you have any words of encouragement for the next Emoticon Community Volunteer? Anything that, you think that, could be important for the next CV?
for the next CV, I want to say, you will do well, good luck to you, and may the force be with you :)

If you haven't been really active in the community, what could be done that you get more active again?
if I was inactive in the community, prompts from other members of the community would probably get me back in :giggle:

If you are new to the Emoticon community:  Do you feel welcomed?  What could be done to make new emoticonists feel welcomed?
I felt VERY welcomed when I first entered the community :) you guys couldn't have been better :happycry:

What is your first reaction when you find a new Emoticonist?
Mh... usually if I fave something I check out the gallery of the deviant, but with emoticonists it usually takes some time until i watch them.

Pick 5 of your most favourite Emoticonists and describe why they are special to you, what makes them stand out from the others?
Well, my favorite is definitely CookiemagiK because his stuff is always well made, funny and a bit silly :D
SparklyDest.... because if I don't say this, zombies are gonna eat me :(
Krissi001 (I hope it's okay to name you :) ) I love the colours you use and how smooth the animations look
and because I don't watch that many emoticonists I can't really name more from the top of my head, sorry :(

How could we strengthen the connection within the Emoticon community?
Mhhh.... I'm not really active in the community, usually I just post things for contests. To get ME more active you would need more contests were you sign up first and THEN get the theme (so I can't change my mind), or were you compete directly against a single emoticonist (like a tournament).

What is your first reaction when you find a new Emoticonist?
Who's this? I like to look at their galleries and see what they usually do. Is it photos, writing, other digital work? I like to see what they are going to bring to the art form.

Pick 5 of your most favourite Emoticonists and describe why they are special to you, what makes them stand out from the others?
MixedMilkChOcOlate, Mirz123, Gomotes, Seiorai, and CookiemagiK pop up first because their emotes are almost instantly recognizable as theirs. I hope to develop a style through shading/animation that makes the ones I create as easily identifiable as mine eventually. There are others that I notice because of their community involvement, or simply the amount of energy they bring.

Is there anything that you want to say to the whole Emoticon community?
Make art! Amazingly a little 15 by 15 pixel creation has the ability to convey or evoke emotion. All it needs is your imagination to fuel it.

How could we strengthen the connection within the Emoticon community?
I have said before that being a part of something is merely a matter of participating in it. Every artist here is looking for the same thing, regardless of medium, feedback. It tells us we've been noticed, and gives us something to incorporate into our next piece.

What kind of things do you want to see less / more in the Emoticon Gallery?  (miscats excluded :stare:)
Hard to say. "More" pretty much says it all. Just when you think 'that's been done a thousand times' someone comes along and seems to make it new again. So the more there is, the more likely we'll get to see those 'gems'.

Do you have any words of encouragement for the next Emoticon Community Volunteer? Anything that, you think that, could be important for the next CV?
Stay positive. The dArama is easy to get drawn into if you let it bug you, though that isn't unique to the Emote community. I rarely look at 'popular' on my front page, but keep refreshing 'newest'. I find things I wouldn't otherwise see that way. Keep a fresh perspective on the community by looking for that 'newest' artist that is trying to bring something unique, and encourage them to participate in the variety of contests/projects to hone their skills by keeping them informed. Never forget we're here for the art first, anything else second.

What did you like and what didn't you like in the time when I was the Community Volunteer?
I started doing this just under a year ago, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I liked the community involvement, feedback, opportunity to learn by participation. I don't care much for the adolescent drama but frankly, it's emotions that inspire the work. So I take that energy and try to incorporate it in my pieces (especially the bigger ones) and avoid adding fuel to any discussions that swing negative.

What is your first reaction when you find a new Emoticonist?
I'll check out their gallery to see what do they make and if they're new to the community, I'll greet them :dummy: But so far I didn't find anyone who is that new :B

Pick 5 of your most favourite Emoticonists and describe why they are special to you, what makes them stand out from the others?
I admire litecrush <3 and her work: she has detailed, well animated emoticons and great ideas :eyes:
happy-gurl and BlissfullySarcastic have great skills and they work in MS Paint. They are a great example to show that it doesn't matter what program are you using, you can be good. :dummy:
Web5teR has incredibly detailed emoticons and animations. :faint:
Synfull has awesome emoticons I don't even have to mention it, everyone knows her emotes.

Is there anything that you want to say to the whole Emoticon community?
I started to make emotes like 6 weeks ago, so I'm new to the community. So far I love how people are connecting to each other. :meow:

How could we strengthen the connection within the Emoticon community?
I think it's strong enough, there are many fun projects around :la:

Do you have any words of encouragement for the next Emoticon Community Volunteer? Anything that, you think that, could be important for the next CV?
Whoever you'll be, I'm sure you'll do awesome :eyes:
Don't get discouraged if you don't receive that much response to your journal entries and other things, there will be many people who will be eagerly waiting for them. :meow:

If you are new to the Emoticon community:  Do you feel welcomed?  What could be done to make new emoticonists feel welcomed?
:iconquiteindeedplz: I do. I suggest that new emoticonists should go on dAmn. There are chatrooms where emoticonists chat, it's a good way to meet other people and be a part of the community.

What is your first reaction when you find a new Emoticonist?
Check out their emotes and mostly watch!

Is there anything that you want to say to the whole Emoticon community?
KEEP GOING!!  and open more projects

How could we strengthen the connection within the Emoticon community?
Possibly more collab. contests/

If you are new to the Emoticon community:  Do you feel welcomed?  What could be done to make new emoticonists feel welcomed?
I feel welcomed! Especially when I first started. I feel like some more unexpired emote groups could be made to get them some more attention.
